Phase Two: Education
We will offer an innovative open course that will provide a rich learning environment for both McMaster students and interested citizens, civil society and government personnel. Using a flexible learning platform to enable in-person and remote learning opportunities, course participants will be introduced to the foundations of public engagement in health policy (history, key trends, critiques and challenges), current approaches and cutting-edge developments.
A final course assignment will be the design of a Participatory Democracy in Health project that addresses a current health system challenge and outlines an engagement approach that has been appropriately adapted to the problem it seeks to address and the relevant voices that need to be included. Project team members will serve as resource faculty for the course.
